Outreach Services
SANC’s street outreach program involves going out into the community to connect with people who use drugs and provide harm reduction services directly on the streets, in parks, or other public areas. The goal of street outreach is to reach individuals who may not have access to traditional healthcare services, or who may be hesitant to seek out help due to stigma or other barriers.
During street outreach, harm reduction workers drive to high-risk communites with supplies such as sterile needles and syringes, naloxone kits, wound kits, hygiene kits, and educational materials. They approach individuals who appear to be using drugs and offer them harm reduction services, such as clean needles and syringes, naloxone, and education on safer injection practices and overdose prevention.
Street outreach workers often build relationships with people who use drugs, providing support and resources that can help them reduce the harms associated with drug use. They may also offer referrals to other healthcare and social service providers, such as addiction treatment programs or housing services, to help individuals access additional support.
